The Paper Bag Players are based in New York City but perform all over the country. Our shows (there are thirty in all) run for an hour and consist of about ten separate pieces that combine funny plays, music, dancing, and audience participation. Our props and costumes are made of ordinary household objects, cardboard cartons, plain brown paper, and paper bags. Each year our shows are seen by over 70,000 children. And we have been performing for going on 49 years!
This is, however, the first time we have had a section on our website created especially for teachers!
The Artistic Director of The Paper Bag Players, Judith Martin, aims in creating theater for children to, "...engage, delight and amuse, to create on the stage a world that the audience can enter and comfortable inhabit, where reality and fantasy can mix in a way that children understand and where children themselves feel understood." She is convinced, "that theater can be for children, as for adults, a liberating and exuberant experience."
It is The Paper Bag Players hope that "Teacher Corner" will further enrich this experience for you and your students.
